Snow!!!!

You may have heard, or know from actually being here, that the UK is having a bit of a problem with snow at the moment.

Everything is delayed, flights are cancelled, schools are closed and there is about 6 foot of snow in some areas. This much snow hasn't been seen for about half a century, so it's a pretty big deal! I've been out with my cousin E today in the snow, which has been fun :) we built a snowman, which was going to be great, until some boys decided that it should be BIGGER and, as boys tend to do with a project, completely took over and turned it into a test of manliness. They even made a big production out of demolishing it once it had been made lol. I'm sure that the vid that they made of it will end up on the internet somewhere.

Avatar

Just watched Avatar with the fam. Wow the effects were so awesome!!! The plot wasn't particularly original, a "glorified retelling of Pocahantas" my uncle called it, but any deficiencies in the script were made up for by the visual effects. Pandora was almost more real than reality, every colour was enhanced, every leaf highly detailed... I still can't get over it :)

New interwebby phone

Gah! I got this amazing phone for Christmas that - as it has internet (and, thus, lj) access - is likely to result in many more entries from me. So... Take that as a warning or whatever :P
I know that I've been away, and I don't think that I'll regularly carry on with my journal - I'm far far far far too busy with school to even contemplate it!

So to ease myself back into the random posting that will likely become all that I post here (and to put off doing my work), here is this quote (or chunk of quotes) from Doctor Who season 2 (of New Who) episode 13 (Doomsday):

Cyberman: Our species are similar, though your design is inelegant.

Dalek Thay: Daleks have no concept of elegance!

Cyberman: This is obvious. But consider, our technologies are compatible. Cybermen plus Daleks; together, we could upgrade the universe.

Dalek Thay: You propose an alliance?

Cyberman: This is correct.

Dalek Thay: Request denied!

Cyberman: Hostile elements will be deleted. [they shoot at the Dalek, but it is unaffected]

Dalek Thay: Exterminate! [exterminates both Cybermen]

Cyber Leader: [to another Cybermen] Open visual link!

[the Cyber Leader appears on a screen in front of the other three Daleks]

Cyber Leader: Daleks, be warned. You have declared war upon the Cybermen.

Dalek Sec: This is not war. This is pest control!

Cyber Leader: We have five million Cybermen. How many are you?

Dalek Sec: Four.

Cyber Leader: You would destroy the Cybermen with four Daleks?

Dalek Sec: We would destroy the Cybermen with one Dalek! You are superior in only one respect.

Cyber Leader: What is that?

Dalek Sec: You are better at dying.

Writer's Block: Do Not Open Until 2059

If you were to make a time capsule today to be opened in 50 years, what would you put in it?
I'd take and develop loads of photos of the things that are really ordinary and everyday to me, that might be really odd to the people of 2059, like my toaster, the tv, the computer, the car, the people on a busy street (so that the future!person could see how the people of now dress) and the view from my windows.

Writer's Block: Leave Room

What's your favorite dessert?
Chocolate pudding!!! Yum *licks lips*

Or something lemon-flavoured, depending on my mood :D

Writer's Block: Le Quatorze Juillet

Happy Bastille Day! Today the French celebrate the event that sparked the French revolution. In honor of our Francophone friends, what is your favorite French thing? Bonus points for answers en français.
La nourriture.  J'aime surtout le steak et les frites!

Ah, aussi, j'adore la langue!

Mais je ne suis pas tres forte en francais...

Writer's Block: Not So Genius

Which modern invention do you think the world would be better off without?
The world would be definitely better off without nuclear missiles, or the possibility of ever discovering them.

I do realise that we could take Mutually Assured Destruction as a good thing, but what happens if it gets out of balance?  What happens if another country decides that it wants to be a nuclear superpower, and doesn't care about the balance?

The power to destroy the Earth several hundred times over is a bit too much power to be held by individual people, in my opinion.
